ALINA'S VOICE

ALINA'S VOICE

Alina’s Voice” originated as a university thesis project at the European Institute of Design. It was self-produced by what were then just six students, supported by a crowdfunding initiative. In 2024, the Francesco Morelli Foundation awarded the project the prestigious Grant 2024, recognizing its artistic quality and ethical-social goals. This recognition enabled the medium-length film to enter a second phase of production, allowing the inclusion and enhancement of scenes previously cut due to budget constraints. In 2024, “Alina’s Voice” officially became a film, receiving national theatrical distribution by Scrittoio Film.

The film premiered at the Trieste Film Festival in 2025, competing in the Salani Award section.

Synopsis:
Johana is one of the many migrants on the Balkan route, attempting to reach Europe. During her journey, she meets Alina, a slightly older Moldovan girl, and the two form a vital bond that becomes essential for Johana’s survival. Upon reaching Italy, their fate leads them into the clutches of a prostitution racket—a brutal system of modern slavery. When Alina suddenly dies, Johana is left alone, with nothing left to lose. Seizing an opportunity to rebel, she flees desperately through the city. In her escape, she encounters Lorenzo, a middle-aged taxi driver from Friuli. Holding him at gunpoint, she forces him to drive her toward Austria in a last-ditch effort to cross the border and disappear.

Our Vision:
We never intended to tell a fairy tale but rather a plausible story that could be shared among survivors of the street, like a song of hope and resilience. Our relentless pursuit of authenticity led us to collaborate with various organizations dedicated to combating sexual exploitation and supporting the social reintegration of women who have escaped trafficking.
